Passport Processing System – PPS-P

The PPS packaging and banding module can be directly connected to the PPS verification and/or sorting system or be used as a stand-alone system. The machine is feeding passports with one or two conveyors. The operator can feed passports while the machine is running in order to get a continuous process without stopping of the machine. After feeding of the passport, a barcode reader is verifying the information on the backside label of the passport with the passport holder information. The information about the sorting and grouping criteria can be part of the barcode information or – by using the DIALok Data Center – coming out of the customer’s central database. With this information, the passports are transported to the assembling modules. The amount of passports which are assembled can vary from group to group. A minimum of 2 passports have to be assembled before transporting the group to the packaging modules. Passports which could not be read are rejected and will be transported into a rejection box. After verification, the passports are transported into the turning unit. After 5 passports, the following 5 passports are turned by 180°. In this case, the open part of the passport changes its direction after every 5 passports in order for the passports to be perfectly assembled in the assembling station.

Automatic packaging of passports

The number of passports between turning can be changed in the set-up of the machine. After turning, the passports are transported into the assembly station. Up to 50 passports (depending on the thickness of the passports) can be assembled together. The PPS-packaging machine can be equipped with one or two banding modules. The first banding module bands the assembled passports on the length side, the second banding module on the short side of the passports (cross banding). The necessary band is made of plastic. The amount of passports which can be banded can vary from 2-50 passports (depending on thickness) without any adjustment of the system. After banding, the passports are transported either into an additional packaging unit or to the labelling and printing module. By using this device, labels with the final destination, with information about the amount of passports, the dispatch method etc. can be printed online on a label. After printing, using a thermo printer, the label is attached to the assembled passports for a visible information about the content and dispatch and transport information. A barcode scanner is verifying the information for final check. Groups which are not completed due to missing passports or which have other quality issues (missing label etc.) are transported into the rejection box for grouped and banded passports. After rechecking of the label, all batches are transported onto a conveyor belt.
